"Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed." He replied, "Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it."
Jesus actually said it in a light-hearted manner, just like in a teasing manner.
The situation is very similar to when you are doing very good in a certain department in life, e.g. excellling in your academic life. Then someone would suddenly praises you for a job well done. Out of humility and politeness, you thank the person and then you express your 'disagreement' to what he or she was thinking.
If Jesus was dead serious when he answered the woman's compliment then he would turn up to be an ungrateful son and at the same time he would be embarassing that woman,
