my reflection on Lk 11, 1-4

“Do not subject us to the final test . . . “

Is this correct? Why should we avoid test and call it final? Isn’t it an occasion to show how loyal we are to God.

“And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil . . .”

A good Christian must be able to withstand trials and persecutions, tests and temptations. How could we measure and prove our love to God if we were not brought into the test?

Maybe the correct way of understanding this is, “do not bring us into temptation”, or in other words, we should not give in to temptation, i.e. give us more strength to overcome them and is doing you are delivering us from evil.

To sum up, while it is okay to pray and ask God to let our problems go away but it would be a better prayer if we ask God for more strength in order to overcome our problems.
