"And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.
If the above is actually being followed by Christians then the whole Christiandom maybe has now become a one-eyed congregation.
Reading a bible is a serious business. It should be read with care and with faith. Not to be taken literally or else you could harm yourself.
If your eyes are not reading well, then wear glasses . The more that you will not understand the bible if you have bad eyes.
The above passage simply means avoid the occasion of sin. Animals as we are, when subject to temptation we may not be able to resist our animalistic instinct all the time. Sin is not simply doing bad, it means more than that. Sinning is failing to be human i.e. transcending our animal nature. The more that we are in control of our animal instincts the more human and holier we become.
If your eye causes you to sin, find a priest and confess. Harming yourself is sinful.
Christian bloggers, don’t stress your eyes too much in front of your computer screen. Rest your eyes regularly. Being a good Christian is treating one’s body as temple of the Holy Spirit. A Chealthy Christian is a holy Christian.
Hi marblaze,
ReplyDeletethis is a very sensible comment. I first thought the title meant it was about people who did not let themselves see the evil in the world - Pollyanna's. I have seen too much of that Pollyanna behaviour. Like a woman ijn Adelaide whose daughter had been paid $250 for sex with an independent federal senator - she was 16 yrs old. he was in his 50's. the daughter then went out afterwards and bought drugs. this was known about by the mother and the girl's friends aqnd yet they did nothing - no repoting to authorities, nothing. this is the sort of un-Christian attitude that needs to be stamped out through education. and making it safe for people to do so.
- Yours in faith,
Michael M
I remember the senator's name now... Xenephon.
