How To Read the Bible

In reading the bible you must know the context of what you are reading. The gospels for example were written amidst the contention that a mesiah is about to come as foretold in the Old Testament.

This is then the context of the gospels. Hence the authors of the Gospels were proving that Jesus is the mesiah thus any event that can be alluded to the book of Isaiah they do, just to show evidence that Jesus indeed was the Mesiah foretld by Isaiah.

  1. Read it as if your life depended on it!

Read whatever brings you close to God and his ways whether it is one verse in two minutes or most of Proverbs which can take hours.

You aren't there to impress anyone!

You are there before God and he is there with you.

Later, the Holy Spirit will bring back what you've read and internalized when you need it again.

Think of it as combing your hair. Get the kinks out often and whenever.

Talk with God about what is on your heart. Ask for his help. Give him a chance to talk with you. If you don't know what this means, you will be so glad when you do! Don't give up!

Jesus is central to the Bible.
