Why Abolish Death Penalty

view source
1. It is an insult to God. God created men in his image and likeness.

A person no matter how evil he became due to collective factors viz. upbringing, parental (mis)guidance, environment, innate personality etc. still has the capacity to change for the better because God creations - wherein man is one of them are good, in fact man is the best among them. When a person is condemned to die because of a crime committed, it is just like telling God, "You created craps."

2. Money matters. Poor are always in the disadvantage.

The first person meted with death penalty in the Philippines was a poor fish vendor who had been exonerated after spending three years in the death row. Had he been rich, such would never happen to him.

3. It is murder.

It is intentional and premeditated killing of a person; therefore it is murder, a violation of the fifth commandment.

4. It is punishing the wrong party.

The people who suffered more are the relatives of the condemned criminal and members of the society who opposed it. There was one case wherein the victims of the crime committed (rape) were daughters of the accused. Few days before the execution, the daughters begged the then President Estrada to pardon their father but Estrada did not listen to them. A double black-eye to the children.

5. It is a reward rather than punishment.

No one knew what happened to the soul of the murdered' criminal. But most likely he would go directly to heaven. Why? {a} Inmates in the death row are being taken cared of spiritually by someone with spiritual authority, e.g. priest. By the time that his time comes, he could have repented already and therefore he would definitely go to heaven. (b) God is merciful and forgiving, He would certainly forgive a victim of an unjust killing i.e. death penalty.
Maybe it would be a good practice if the judge, congressmen, senators and the president who approved death penalty would take turn in acting as phlebotomists.
