A Christian Blog on Matthew and Luke Christmas Story

It's common for every Christian to have in mind the typical Christian story in which Jesus was born in a manger when Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem to register. Then somewhere nearby the angel appeared to the Shepherd and announce the good news. And then there came the magi with their respective gifts for the King of kings.

This Christian famous Christmas story is actually a combination of Luke and Matthews stories.

The elements pertaining to Matthew's are:

  • conceived by the Holy Spirit
  • magi - wise men from the east
  • massacre of the children
  • escaping to Egypt

And the elements pertaining to Luke's are:

  • conceived by the holy spirit
  • register for taxation
  • manger
  • shepherds

Notice also the Mark and John had no account of the first Christian Christmas.

Between Matthew and Luke, the difference could be that Matthew is proving more that Jesus is the most awaited messiah as foretold by the prophets while Luke tend to appeal to history, i.e. proving that Jesus was a historical figure. The main problem however is that King Herod in Matthew has reigned ten yeasr before the sensus.
